Awards Juror: CYNTHIA SÁNCHEZ, PH.D.
Cynthia Sánchez has been the director and curator for the Capitol Art Foundation in Santa Fe for over 20 years. The Capitol Art Foundation directs and manages the Capitol Art Collection, a public, permanent collection of contemporary art by New Mexico artists, housed in the New Mexico State Capitol Complex.
Sánchez has a Ph.D. in Performance Studies from New York University, a Masters of Fine Arts in Art History and Performance Art from the University of California, and a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting and Sculpture from the University of Arizona. As a cultural theorist, she writes and lectures on the politics of representation and cultural identity, and the performance of visual culture. She is a contributing author of Women Artists of Color: A Bio-Critical Sourcebook.
Sánchez is also a painter, performance artist, and poet. She is a native of Santa Fe, New Mexico where she currently resides with her husband. |
