"I am thrilled to represent the sweet, inclusive & amazing artist colony of Taos as this year's Taos Fall Arts Festival Poster artist! Hats-off to Rob Nightingale who first believed in me years ago, and who is a true hero of the Taos Arts Community."
-Michelle Chrisman
Artist Statement: I love the visual beauty of New Mexico & the West, the desert & variety of 3 cultures. I consider myself a Contemporary Colorist & Modernist, but most of all, a visual poet. I am drawn to paint endangered places such as wilderness, historic buildings & fading cultures, in the hope of drawing public awareness by preserving them on canvas.
My landscapes are painted outdoors, “en plein air.” I paint the effect of outdoor color & light according to the principals of Impressionism, adding Expressionism, as I respond emotionally to painting the beauty of the visual world. The abstraction offered by the real world is exciting to me & I paint ‘alla prima,’ in direct response to the landscape. I am often told that my paintings make people feel happy…the ultimate compliment for me!
